He’d been expecting a simple confirmation, some data to fill in the blank spaces of his past. Instead, the test results revealed an entire new world. A world of aunts, uncles, cousins… a family he never knew existed. His heart thudded in his chest. A strange tension coiled in his gut.

He turned off the computer and walked over to the open window. The scent of rain-soaked earth drifted in, but it didn't calm him. He ran a hand through his hair, a nervous gesture he rarely used. He felt a need to break free, to test his limits. He stepped out onto the balcony, the city lights below seeming to beckon him.
