The aroma of freshly brewed coffee did nothing to soothe the tremor in Coach Blake’s hands. He gripped the mug, feeling the warmth seep into his skin, offering a strange comfort. He’d prepared for this, had spent hours considering different approaches, different words. None of it made it easier.

He glanced at the door, expecting to see her. He felt the blood pounding in his ears, a relentless drumbeat. He took a long, slow breath.
