The argument had been going on for hours. They were circling the same points, the same frustrations. Now, the air in the small room was thick with something beyond just anger. Alex, usually so level-headed, felt a flush creep up his neck. He watched Chloe, her brow furrowed in concentration as she spoke. He thought of her in the shower, the way the water streamed down her body, and he felt a corresponding heat in his own.

"It's about the responsibility, Alex!" Her voice was strained, but her gaze kept dropping, meeting his before quickly flitting away. He’d pitched the idea of a bunny earlier in the day. Now, he wanted to pitch her against the wall.

He swallowed hard, trying to appear calm, but his voice was unsteady. "They're quiet. Cuddly." The words sounded hollow. He wanted to drop the pretense, to forget the bunny altogether. He felt a throbbing pulse. He wanted to kiss her.

He took a deliberate step toward her, watching her reaction. Her breath hitched. The silence between them grew heavy, charged. He knew he was crossing a line, but he couldn't stop himself. He wanted her.
