"Karaoke or camping?" Ben repeated the options aloud, unable to keep the nervousness from his voice. Emily had requested the former; Daniel had planned the latter. He could barely breathe.

He pictured Emily's confident voice, the way she’d look at him from across the stage. His pulse quickened. He imagined the warmth of the room, the feel of her hand on his. He took a long, unsteady breath.

He then thought of the campfire, the darkness, and the closeness of nature. He imagined Daniel’s easy smile and his hands. The thought made him feel slightly breathless. He could already feel the sparks starting.
