"Thank you for your submission." Sarah had expected more. Disappointment twisted in her gut, a knot she couldn't loosen. She stared at the letter, her vision blurring. She pushed herself away from the desk, a strange energy surging through her limbs. She needed movement, she realized, a physical outlet for the sudden tension. She went to the gym, running until her lungs burned and her legs screamed, the rhythm of the treadmill a desperate attempt to drown out the echoes of rejection.
