"Oh, *wow*," Emily breathed, staring at the letter she’d unearthed from her grandmother's things. It was a breathless, passionate plea to a forbidden lover, a man who, Emily knew, was not her grandfather. The handwriting was messy, hurried, filled with urgent declarations. Emily was surprised.

Her cheeks flared. She re-read a particularly evocative passage, and the breath caught in her throat. She sank onto the bed, the letter trembling in her hand. The image of the imagined scene became so real.

She imagined the clandestine meetings, the stolen moments, the burning desire that she suddenly found herself sharing. She felt the sudden urge to move, the need to feel alive. She felt as though she needed to shed her skin.
