The letter was penned in a spidery script, a confessional from her younger self, professing deep, almost aggressive affection for a college professor. It was a secret she thought had been buried forever, and it was now, resurrected. Her cheeks grew hot as she read it. The pages felt strange against her fingers.

She reread the flowery words, her breath catching in her throat. She recalled the thrill of his lectures, his intense gaze. She remembered the way her heart would pound in her chest whenever he spoke her name. The room felt suddenly too small, suffocating.
