The phone call was short, abrupt. "Come by my office," the voice said, and then, a click. Clara immediately felt her hands begin to perspire. Her entire body felt hyper-alert, her senses heightened. This meeting was the day she'd been waiting for. The day she'd been dreading.

She found herself smoothing down her skirt, checking her reflection in the darkened computer screen. This was about work, professionalism. But her heart was thudding against her ribs, a frantic, irregular beat.
