He stared out the window, the autumn leaves swirling in the wind, mirroring the chaos inside him. Across the country. His best friend, Leo, was leaving. The news had hit him like a physical blow, a sudden rush of… something. He couldn't even name it. The crisp air was doing nothing to quell the heat rising beneath his skin.

He pictured Leo, his laughter echoing in his mind, his eyes, the way he would look at him. He felt a strange compulsion to touch something, anything. He gripped the windowsill so hard his knuckles turned white.

He felt a sudden need to be close to Leo, to reassure himself that this was really happening. He turned sharply, his limbs suddenly restless, unable to stay in one place.
