Gemotions

The letter arrived mid-afternoon, during her lunch break. Sarah, normally indifferent to the post, found herself strangely captivated by the neat handwriting. It was from David, the boy she'd pushed away in high school. The betrayal felt distant now.

Reading through the letter, the past seemed to press in on her, like a fog. The memory of their shared secrets, and the sting of his rejection, seemed to vibrate again in her chest. She found herself chewing on her lip, a habit she'd long outgrown.

Her gaze drifted to the window, the sunlight reflecting off the buildings. A low hum of electricity seemed to have replaced her usual calm. Suddenly, the stale air of the office felt too heavy, too thick. She stood up, knocking her chair back with a loud thud, and left to go for a long walk.
