The DNA test results arrived with a thud on the doormat. *Half-sibling: Male*. She didn’t recognise the name, nor the email address. A knot formed in her stomach and the unfamiliarity made her want to know more, this new, strange connection.

Curiosity got the better of her. She’d always yearned for family. She typed in the email address. She found his social media. He was a musician, and a handsome one at that. She listened to his music, her fingers drumming along to the rhythm. The music was so familiar, it was like she had known it all along.

The music had a hold on her, and she felt a sense of anticipation building. She was surprised by the sudden thrill she experienced as she reached out to him.
