The attic air hung thick with dust motes dancing in the lone sunbeam. Clara traced a finger along the faded leather of her mother's travel journal, a chill prickling her skin despite the heat. Finding the bucket list scrawled inside felt like uncovering a secret, a glimpse into a life her mother had kept hidden. She ran her tongue over her suddenly dry lips as she scanned the first item: "Swim naked in the Mediterranean." A smile played on her face, then morphed into a different expression, a feeling she hadn't anticipated.

Her pulse quickened. Clara felt a strange, restless energy surge through her. She had been meaning to clean out the attic for months, but suddenly, the thought of leaving the space felt impossible. Sunlight glinted off the brass buckle of a trunk, and she found herself wanting to explore it. Her jeans felt tight, restricting.
