"See the Mona Lisa." Liam stared at the elegant script, his mother's, the paper tucked inside a leather-bound sketchbook. A warmth spread throughout him, a slow burn that intensified. He felt his breathing quicken, his skin prickle.

He pictured her standing before the iconic painting, her expression of wonder. He imagined her exploring the streets of Paris, soaking in the art and culture. The thought sent a jolt through him, leaving him trembling.

He ran a hand through his hair, the room suddenly feeling too small. He felt a need to do something, to act, to experience the world. He felt like his blood was on fire.
