He stared at the vintage record player on his desk, a gift from Mark, the class clown who had unexpectedly found a passion for jazz music. Mr. Bell, the music teacher, felt a unfamiliar stirring. The accompanying note spoke of "lessons learned, tunes remembered."

He ran a hand over the smooth wood of the player, imagining the warm sound of vinyl filling the room. He felt an urge to hum, to feel the vibrations. He fiddled with the knobs and dials, the anticipation building in his chest.

He felt the tension knotting in his shoulders. He reached for a record, a Charlie Parker album. He knew this would be a long night.
