He stared at the official document, the words blurring slightly. The air in the student union felt thick, heavy. This was happening. His university, the one he’d poured his heart and soul into, was going under. A flush climbed his neck.

A nervous energy coursed through him, making him tap his foot incessantly. His palms felt damp. He balled his hands into fists, then consciously relaxed them. He needed to find Maya.

He spotted her across the room, already surrounded by a cluster of distraught students. He made his way through the throng, the pulse in his ears quickening. Each step felt like a drumbeat echoing the news. The way she looked, standing there… He had to get to her. He had to be near her.
