Gemotions

The heat was almost unbearable, the sun beating down mercilessly. Mr. Abernathy, his face flushed, leaned against the fence, a small saw in his hand. She felt a bead of sweat trickle down her back, a sensation that she found unexpectedly pleasurable.

"Morning, Mrs. Chen," he greeted, his voice husky. The simple formality was jarring, somehow intensifying the unspoken tension that crackled between them. She unconsciously touched her throat, a nervous gesture.

"Good morning," she replied, her voice barely audible. Her focus sharpened, and she found herself riveted by the way his muscles bunched in his arm as he demonstrated how to use the saw.

"About that sycamore…" He began, his words lost in the sudden roar of a nearby lawnmower. She nodded, understanding instantly. The suggestion to get rid of the tree, something she’d barely considered earlier, now carried a significance she couldn't explain. She wanted to be closer, to feel the heat radiating from his body. She licked her lips, her mouth suddenly dry.
