Liam found the laptop open, its screen displaying a chapter titled, “The Proposal.” His stomach did a curious flip. He leaned closer, the scent of lavender and something distinctly *him* – his wife, Sarah’s perfume – still lingered in the air. The words described the night they got engaged, the rain, the flickering candlelight, and his stumbling, heartfelt vows. He flushed, remembering the way she had looked at him.

His palms were suddenly slick. He ran a hand through his hair, a nervous gesture he hadn't realized he was still prone to. He felt a sudden, sharp ache of wanting for her, the need to feel her close. He pictured her in her favorite red dress, and the blood started to race in his veins. He imagined the feel of her skin. He slowly shut the laptop and left to find her, his heart hammering against his ribs.
