The shovel bit into the earth, yielding with a satisfying thud. Dust motes danced in the late afternoon sun, illuminating the forgotten corner of the overgrown garden. Sarah, sweat beading on her forehead, paused to wipe her brow with the back of her hand. Her pulse quickened with the anticipation of discovery. She didn't remember burying this, a nagging feeling that she was intruding on a secret she'd once held. A thrill, almost electric, ran up her spine.

Inside the rusted metal box, nestled amongst brittle newspaper clippings, was a small, velvet pouch. Her fingers trembled as she reached for it, her breath hitching in her chest.

She spilled its contents onto the upturned lid: a single, tarnished silver ring. A warmth bloomed in her stomach, a feeling of deep connection to something…someone? The ring fit perfectly on her ring finger. Her gaze dropped to the ground, lost in thought. A languid smile spread across her face.
