The flickering airport monitor mocked Elias. "Delayed." It was the same word, the same bland announcement, that had been his companion for the last four hours. He’d missed the unveiling. He’d failed his father. Elias ran a hand through his already dishevelled hair, then, without thinking, scrubbed at the expensive fabric of his suit. He felt the insistent thrum of his pulse in his ears. The gallery, the lights, the cheers… all a distant dream now. He should be there, standing beside his father, not wallowing in this fluorescent-lit purgatory.
