The world seemed to tilt on its axis. Sarah blinked, trying to make sense of the empty spot where her minivan usually sat. Had she parked somewhere else? She racked her brain, replaying the morning's errands. No. It was gone.

A wave of nausea washed over her. The sign, now clearly visible, explained it all: parking restrictions during street cleaning. She'd been so preoccupied, so stressed about the upcoming presentation, that she’d completely forgotten. Her breath caught in her throat. She dreaded the call to her boss, explaining her tardiness.
