Gemotions

The memory of the paper airplane competition returned. Emily was staring at a box filled with old school projects her mother had pulled out to show her new boyfriend. The memory was linked to the crumpled math test, the terrible grades.

She felt a sharp pain in her chest. Everything in the box was a reminder of something she’d tried to forget. She couldn't look at the evidence of her youthful, often clumsy, attempts to succeed. The idea of her mother sharing all of it with a stranger made her want to crawl into a hole and disappear.
