Gemotions

The envelope felt heavy in her hand. Inside were scans confirming the chronic pain, the debilitating fatigue. Her life, for the last year, had been defined by these ailments. She had accepted it, adjusted her expectations. The receptionist at the clinic, a young woman with a kind face, looked genuinely horrified when she presented the corrected file. The real diagnosis, apparently, was a minor vitamin deficiency. The sense of… wrongness...was so profound. She pulled her coat tighter, wishing she could simply fold herself into the shadows.
