The phone felt heavy in her hand as she scrolled through the company directory. Her eyes kept returning to the entry for David, the intern, the person she was supposedly mentoring. She thought she knew everything, she was supposed to be the "expert".

Her shoulders slumped as she sat at her desk. She usually enjoyed her work, but now a cloud hung over everything. David's bright enthusiasm and fresh ideas, once a source of inspiration, now felt like a taunt. Her own contributions seemed diminished.

She began to take longer lunch breaks, avoiding the open office. She felt a growing sense of isolation, a chasm between her and her colleagues. When David asked for her advice, she gave clipped, one-word answers.
