Gemotions

The old house creaked and groaned around Clara, each sound a reminder of her failures. She rubbed her arms, as if cold, though the summer air was warm. Her grandmother had always wanted her to take over the house, to keep the family legacy alive.

But Clara had run from the responsibility, from the memories. She'd prioritized her career, her independence, her freedom. Now, she felt trapped, bound by guilt and the knowledge of her selfish decisions.

Her brother, Ben, was happily sketching ideas for renovations, oblivious to the internal turmoil she was experiencing. His enthusiasm only amplified her unease.

Clara wanted to scream, to run away, to escape the suffocating weight of it all. "It's a great place," Ben said, "we can make it our own."

Clara managed a tight, forced smile. "Yes," she agreed, her voice barely a whisper.
