The aroma of cinnamon and nutmeg slapped Clara in the face the moment she stepped inside "Sweet Surrender," the bakery that was now, inexplicably, famous. Her stomach clenched. This was her grandmother's recipe, the "Celestial Spice Cake" she'd baked every Christmas, a secret passed down through generations. Now, it was "Angel's Delight" and the talk of the town, winning awards and drawing lines around the block.

She’d almost convinced herself it was a coincidence, a different spin on a similar idea. But seeing the cake, precisely decorated as her grandmother always did, with those same delicate candied violets, her legs nearly gave out. She retreated into the shadows, feigning interest in the artisanal bread display, the bustling customers feeling like a physical weight on her. Her throat tightened, and she found it difficult to breathe. She wanted to scream, to confront, to disappear.
