"You have a brother," the email declared. He didn't want a brother. He just wanted… to be left alone. Mark felt a knot of dread twist in his gut. His body tensed.

He ignored the emails, the messages, the phone calls. He pretended to not see them, or that they weren't for him. He was afraid of facing this new reality, of being forced to confront something he’d rather ignore.

He found himself spending more time at work, staying late, burying himself in tasks. He worked until exhaustion claimed him, seeking escape from the unwanted intrusion.
