The doorbell rang. Sarah’s hand froze mid-wash, the soapy water dripping onto the pristine white countertop. The delivery driver held a package, addressed to "Ms. Eleanor Vance," the woman who had vacated the apartment six months prior, leaving a trail of unpaid debts and broken promises.

Her throat tightened as she took the box. She signed the slip with a shaky hand, the pen feeling heavy. Sarah wanted to slam the door, but she couldn't. She needed to be a good tenant. The box was just too heavy to be worth the trouble. She placed it by the front door, avoiding her own reflection in the hallway mirror.
