Gemotions

The package contained a beautiful, hand-painted portrait. It was addressed to "Ms. Evelyn Reed," the flamboyant artist who had resided in the flat before. Evelyn had painted several portraits of herself, some of which had hung in the flat before she had run out on her bills. Her artistic expression, and lack of self-awareness, had infuriated the present tenant. The new tenant felt the corners of her mouth twitch as she inspected the painting. She felt a need to explain something.

She considered dropping the package at the post office. She considered returning it. Instead, she took the painting into the spare room, avoiding her reflection in the hallway mirror. The portrait would go in the back corner of the room.
