The party was in full swing, music blaring, laughter echoing through the large, opulent house. Sarah stood near the buffet table, picking listlessly at a miniature quiche. Everyone was congratulating her friend, the inventor of the new automated dog walker. A deep knot formed in her gut.

She’d spent months perfecting her own version of the same thing. She'd been so sure, so confident. She watched as her friend was swarmed by admirers, her chest ached. She excused herself and went outside, the cool night air doing little to alleviate the heat rising in her face. The joy of the evening was completely lost on her.
