The empty pages of the new notebook stared back at Jessica. She’d been so excited to begin her next novel, a sprawling fantasy epic, inspired by Blackwood’s rich world-building. Now, the blankness felt oppressive. She couldn’t bring herself to write, the words stuck in her throat.

She felt a hollowness, a sense of creative paralysis. She’d spent so long trying to emulate his style, to capture his magic, that she was lost. Her own voice, her own ideas, seemed distant, unreachable. She felt useless and uninspired.

She slammed the notebook shut, the sound echoing in the silent room.
