He sat in the back of the recording studio, unseen, unheard. The producer, a man he respected, was working on a demo with a new singer. And then, the music started. His song, “Silent Tears.”

The singer's voice was strong, beautiful, but it lacked the vulnerability, the brokenness he'd poured into the lyrics. The arrangement was cleaner, more polished, devoid of the grit and raw emotion he'd intended.

He felt a deep sense of inadequacy, a gnawing feeling that he wasn’t good enough. His hands clenched into fists. He wanted to run, to escape the sound, to pretend he’d never written it. He considered it a betrayal of his work.
