The message, a heartfelt declaration of love, was meant for his wife. But it had gone to his ex-girlfriend. He leaned back in his chair, the room suddenly feeling too small, the air too thin.

He replayed the moment in his head, his thumb hovering over the "send" button, the sudden, sickening realization. He imagined the ex's smug satisfaction, the thinly veiled “I told you so.”

He couldn't even meet his own gaze in the mirror. He considered confessing to his wife immediately, but the thought of the ensuing conversation made him want to disappear.
