Gemotions

My fingers fumbled with the clasp of my briefcase. I had seen her presentation. Her project. My project. I felt a surge of heat, and the sudden urge to hide. I’d poured my heart and soul into this, and now, here was Emily, taking the credit.

I felt a flush creep up my neck. I kept my eyes on the floor, trying to appear nonchalant. When Emily finished, the room erupted in applause, and the sound felt distant, muffled.

Without a word, I turned and practically ran for the exit, my heart hammering against my ribs. I had to get away. The feeling was overpowering.
