A wave of heat flushed through Olivia’s body. The account statement, discovered tucked into a cookbook, felt like a branding iron. Her husband, James, always had a casual attitude towards finances, and she assumed he just wasn't good at managing them. Now, there was a hidden cache.

She walked into the bedroom and sat on the edge of the bed, feeling suddenly weak. The room spun slightly. She thought about the recent purchases and the discussions about the bills. He’d made it seem as though money was tight.

She looked at the perfectly made bed, the matching curtains, the orderly space she always loved and felt a pang. She got up, went into the bathroom and splashed cold water on her face.
