Gemotions

The air crackled around him. He felt a sharp, almost physical, jolt. His eyes widened, and he blinked rapidly. His breath came in shallow, ragged gasps. The room, which moments ago had been mundane and familiar, suddenly felt hostile and charged.

His internal dialogue was a maelstrom of confusion and disbelief. He'd put in the hours, the effort, the loyalty. He felt the blood begin to rush in his ears.

He stared at the smiling face of his new trainee, and felt the first tendrils of resentment begin to unfurl in his gut.
