A gasp escaped Sophia's lips. She’d been helping her aunt with spring cleaning, and the box, tucked away in the back of the guest room closet, was a complete surprise. The label read: "Sophia's School Years - Do Not Throw Away."

Inside, she found meticulously organized folders, each containing a year's worth of assignments. Her eyes widened. A wave of heat flushed her face.

She ran her hand over a particularly elaborate diorama she'd constructed in sixth grade. It was like a dream, she thought. The sheer thoughtfulness that her mother must have poured into this was unbelievable. She felt a strange mix of emotions, all swirling together.
