"Are you absolutely certain?" Sarah's voice cracked, a sound she hadn't heard in years. Her hands flew to her mouth, covering her lips. The nurse on the phone, however, seemed unfazed by the bomb she'd just dropped.

She felt a hot flush creep up her neck. The room, usually a comforting space filled with family photos, now felt alien and suffocating. She slowly sat down, her legs suddenly weak. She felt a profound sense of disbelief.

She pictured her life, her health, and everything she thought she knew spinning out of control. Her fingers, usually steady, trembled as she clutched the phone tighter.
