As I approached the house, the silence was palpable. I had seen the cars parked, and I was so excited. I was ready to burst with joy. I knocked on the door, then slowly opened it, my heart pounding with excitement.

The living room was dark. Empty. No one was there. I felt a sudden weight in my chest. The carefully chosen decorations, the meticulous planning, the anticipation – it had all vanished.

I called my sister, the organizer of the whole thing. "It's off," she said. Her voice was strained. "We can't do it. I'm so sorry." The words were like a blow. I felt the breath leave my body, and I just stood there, speechless.
