"Impossible," Maya breathed, her voice a thin thread of disbelief. The flyer, clutched in her sweaty palm, seemed to vibrate in her grip. "The Golden Wok? Gone?"

She had to go see for herself. She practically ran, her feet slapping against the pavement, towards the familiar neon glow of the restaurant sign.

When she arrived, she stared at the empty windows, the blinds drawn tight. A construction crew was already dismantling the sign. A knot tightened in her chest, making it difficult to breathe. This wasn't happening. Her favorite place, a cornerstone of her past, was…gone.

Her palms began to sweat again, and the flyer crumpled in her hand. She stared blankly at the empty space where the restaurant stood.
