He’d always suspected there was something more to this house, a history the real estate agent had conveniently glossed over. Now, rummaging through the attic, his suspicions seemed confirmed. The air crackled with unseen energy.

He pulled open a dusty suitcase, the latch protesting. Inside, he found a collection of old photographs. Sepia-toned images of a family he didn't know, posing in front of the very house he now owned. A woman in a long dress, a stern-faced man, and several children, their eyes unnervingly vacant.

He closed the suitcase again, a shiver running down his spine. He couldn’t explain the way his scalp prickled. It was like he'd opened a portal.
