Gemotions

Rain lashed against the windows, mirroring the frantic energy coursing through Amelia. This old house… it was hiding something. She'd always felt it. Now, as she ran her hand along the bookcase in the study, she found it. A barely perceptible give in the wood, a slight shift. She pressed harder, and a section of the shelves swung inward.

She stood perfectly still for a long moment, simply taking in the sight. Inside the newly-revealed space was a narrow staircase leading downwards, lost in shadows. A metallic tang, like old blood, reached her nostrils. She reached for the light switch, finding only darkness, then fumbled for her phone's flashlight. Every fiber of her being screamed at her to turn back, but she couldn't. Curiosity, or something more primal, had taken hold.
