The phone felt heavy in his hand. John repeated the story, his voice sounding hollow to even himself. The story was the same. Exactly the same. He felt like the ground had crumbled beneath his feet. The date, the restaurant, the shared dessert... all echoed the memory of his own recent night out. The voice on the other end, belonging to a man named Kevin, was describing the exact same evening, but from a different perspective. John's jaw clenched. He pictured her smiling, laughing, perhaps even crying. This was impossible. This couldn't be happening. “So… she told you she loved… Italian food?” He asked, his voice barely audible.
