Gemotions

The cream-colored envelope felt unusually heavy in Amelia's hand. She squinted at the embossed lettering: “Northwood High – Class of ’04 Reunion.” Her jaw dropped slightly. Twenty years? Already? She'd been certain she was still figuring things out, still trying to nail down what she wanted to be when she grew up.

She ripped the envelope open, the paper tearing raggedly. Inside, a glossy invitation proclaimed a lavish event at the Grandview Hotel. A pang hit her gut. She hadn't even thought about a reunion. Certainly not for her.

"Well, I'll be," she murmured, tracing the cursive signature with a finger. The signature was, of course, from the girl who had seemed to have it all together in high school. Amelia shuddered and reached for a glass of water, feeling suddenly parched.
