Gemotions

The sunlight sliced through the dusty room, illuminating particles dancing in the air. Emily, her heart thudding, held a photograph of her great-great-grandmother, Eleanor. Her family had always painted her as a pious, reserved woman. In the picture, though, Eleanor was laughing, head thrown back, a glass of something amber clutched in her hand. Beside her stood a man she didn't recognize, his arm possessively around her waist. Emily's breath hitched. She traced the image of the man's face with a trembling finger, a curious flutter in her stomach.
