He stared at his reflection in the mirrored wall, his face a mask of bewilderment. He had always taken his father’s presence, his unwavering work ethic, for granted. Now, here he was, about to celebrate the end of that very life. He felt a sudden, inexplicable tightening in his throat. This wasn't the plan.

He adjusted his tie, the knot suddenly feeling tight and restrictive. The room was buzzing with chatter, but it felt like the world was spinning. He focused on his feet, trying to ground himself. Then he walked towards the podium, feeling as if every step was taking him into a different dimension.
