David’s jaw slackened. He had been mentally preparing for a productive meeting, ready to discuss his upcoming presentation. Now, everything seemed to shift. The vibrant posters adorning Professor Lee’s office suddenly blurred. The light from the window felt too bright, causing a headache to brew behind his eyes.

He sat there, silent, his mind racing. Where would he go? Who would supervise his work? What would become of his dissertation? He felt a sudden, terrifying sense of disorientation.

He took a deep breath, trying to steady himself, and asked, his voice trembling, "So… when are you leaving?"
