The afternoon sun streamed through the window as David sorted through his late father's desk. The familiar scent of wood polish and old paper filled the room. He felt a lump form in his throat. Among the neatly organized files, a single envelope, marked with a familiar script, caught his attention. It was a letter to his father's boss.

He froze. He felt a sensation in his gut. A letter of resignation. His father had always presented a picture of contentment in his work. The words in the letter revealed a different story.

David slowly lowered himself into the chair, the weight of the paper pressing down on him. He felt as if he had run a marathon. He slowly took in a breath. It was as if everything had changed.
