Gemotions

The air in the coffee shop suddenly felt too thick, too heavy to breathe. He stared at Sam, his eyes wide, trying to make sense of the words. Sam had always been the rock, the constant in his life. Now, he was saying, "I'm transferring to the New York office."

He felt a strange numbness creep through his body, starting in his toes and working its way up. He knew what it meant. He was losing his support system, the one person he could always rely on. The world was crashing down.

He could not articulate a response.
