Gemotions

The aroma of freshly baked bread filled the bakery. Yet, the air was thick with tension. We were both finalists in the regional baking competition. Our signature breads were now side by side on the judge’s table. They looked identical. Mine. His. The same crust, the same crumb, the same intricate scoring patterns.

I felt a wave of dizziness wash over me. My hands started to sweat. I had spent countless hours perfecting my recipe, my technique. Now, standing here, it felt like all that work had been erased. He was staring at me, his eyes wide, his expression a mixture of disbelief and dismay.

He didn't speak. He just shook his head slowly. The judges were whispering, and the crowd was murmuring. The world seemed to tilt on its axis.
