The genetic counselor’s words hung in the air, heavy and suffocating. “Both of you have the same…variant. The one responsible for the delayed muscle regeneration.” Sarah’s husband, Mark, sat beside her, his face a mask of shock. The room felt suddenly small, the walls closing in. She felt a tingling sensation beginning in her toes, working its way up her legs.
